Gold is wearable wealth! With 1 troy oz of gold I made 2 beautiful earrings and still have enough left over to make a pendant. . These are heirloom pieces in high karat gold and will most likely be handed down when you’re done enjoying them. They will last forever. You have FOUR MONTHS to view the class if you sign up early! Taking this class will help you learn invaluable skills! People will truly be in awe by the gorgeous pieces you make! This will be a one of a kind online training for those learning to work with Gold granulation in 22k gold! Many bench jewelers do not have this skill set!
I will teach you 22k gold granulation methods to add unique style to your work. In this project you can choose to make a ring or ring topper, a pendant or earrings, or what every you desire depending on how much gold you have. My class demo is a small pendant or could also be a a pair of earrings. Gold is so much easier to work with than any other metal and not difficult at all. In this class you will be learning simple, primitive methods for using gold granules in your work, I’ll teach you how to make your own gold glue and copper wash to hold your granules on while fusing them to your work. You can use the 22k gold alloy from Ancient goldsmitihng part 1 to make beautiful gold granules that is extremely rich in color and will fuse successfully! You can use your smith little torch with the methods you learned in Ag part 1 and I will introduce you my preferred fusing method using the german blow pipe torch which truly is the best method for fusing granulation. We will practice adding granules around gold bezels and explore granulation lay out patterns and other unique designs and ideas for granulation.
For a ring or larger pieces i suggest 1 oz of your home made 22k gold alloy however you will surely have some left over, but it really depends on what you wish to make. You could only use 1/2 oz if you're making a smaller piece such as a ring topper , earrings or small pendant You may still have 22k gold left over from part 1 which you can use also! If you just wish to make a pendant or simple 1 stone earrings you can use much less gold and you won’t need that many granules.
Tools required same as from AG part 1 to make your gold components and are pretty standard tools that all serious jewelers should own: a combination rolling mill (with grooves and flat space on rollers), a $40 boat/trailer winch to make a home made draw-bench. You will need a small hole wire draw plate for drawing down 22g round wire, Basic planishing hammers, pliers, files, etc. We will make step bezels and will NOT use burs for stone settings unless you want to open up the back of your settings.
You will need a smith little propane plus oxygen with a special multi-port tip OR a blow pipe torch which is what i will be using for fusing the granules. NO acetylene torches (unless you have experience on how to use it with a bee-hive kiln, as i do not teach this and do not use that torch).
