Learn how to make the most of your learning experience by keeping a class diary

INTRO: class overview, design ideas, choosing gemstones, gallery wire, using the ring templates, and tool overview.

PART 1: Lining up the gallery wires, making the bezel and soldering it closed, cutting out the templates on your metal, hallmark the shanks.

PART 2: Forming the top of the ring, using boric acid dip, soldering the two top ends together, using soldering clay, sising up the rings with a dappling puts soldering the back of the shank.

PART 3: Cleaning up the ring with files, Sanding drums and Ring polishers, adding the top disc, soldering with hard solder paste, and tapering the top sides, cleaning up the ring.

PART 4 soldering on the Gallery bezel , cleaning up the ring and setting the stone.

************Once you get the round shape down you can try making an oval! This was made from the exact size template in your hand outs. After soldering the round tops together in Part 1, I made it oval by changing the round shape with a mini oval bezel from Otto Frei Part # 143.032, Then made a bezel for a 10x14 oval stone and sawed out an oval back plate. I had some extra space around the bezel, so I filled it with 20gauge twisted wire. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR FLAT TOPS!
